Say goodbye to streaky shower glass with this cleaning hack.
If your shower has a glass screen to prevent water from splashing around your bathroom, you’ll probably know how annoying it can be to keep it clean. It’s impossible to stop your shower from spraying water against the glass, and when you shampoo your hair or use soap, it’s inevitable that some product will land on the surface.
You might be in the habit of using water to spray the soap and shampoo off the glass at the end of your shower, but you’ll probably be aware that this isn’t an effective way of making sure your glass stays sparkling.
Water and soap residue that dries on shower glass can leave streaky marks all over the surface. These marks can make our bathrooms look unclean, and the longer you leave them to sit, the harder they’ll be to remove.
But one product you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard could get your shower glass sparkling again. And if you need to go out and buy some, it’ll only set you back around 35p in some supermarkets.
A TikTok video from a professional cleaner stated that all you need to get your shower glass sparkling again is some white vinegar. In the clip, the cleaner used white vinegar and citrus spray made by Astonish, but regular white vinegar mixed with water will do the trick if you already have some at home.
She said: “If your shower screen looks like this where it’s covered in soap, shower gels, shampoos, then you need some white vinegar. For me, my go-to is always the Astonish white vinegar. The one I’m using is the one with zesty citrus, and just having that lemon smell in it really does take the harsh smell of the vinegar away.”
The cleaner spritzed the cleaning product all over the glass inside the shower. She explained that if you can detatch your shower head, you can use it to give the glass a rinse once you’ve let the product sit for a while. However, in the shower she was cleaning that wasn’t possible, so she gave the glass a good wipe down with towels instead.
Once the glass was clean, the woman went in with a special dry glass cloth to get rid of any leftover streaks and make sure the glass really was sparkling clean.
She added: “Here’s a little tip for you as well. If you’re cleaning the shower screen and you’re standing inside and you still think there might be streaks, bend down and look up. That way, you’re going to know if you’ve got all the marks.”
Commenters on the woman’s video were thankful for her advice, with many saying they would be heading to their kitchen cupboards to fish out their white vinegar as soon as possible.
