Dirty white trainers will look brand new again with two cleaning items

Buying a fresh pair of trainers is the ultimate way to refresh your wardobe, but unfortunately, they never stay clean for very long.

Over time, mud can quickly start to plague your shoes, especially if you’re wearing them on a daily basis.

And if the trainers are white, it shows up even easier – and it’s not long before they start to look a little worse for wear.

However, before you think about investing in another pair, it could be worth trying to give them a clean – which you can actually do at home in the washing machine.

All you need is two very simple cleaning products to do this, and your trainers will look brand new again, according to an expert on social media.

The simple trick was shared on TikTok by @homewithlese, who boasts more than 49k followers thanks to her easy-to-follow cleaning hacks for around the home.

She says that cleaning your dirty white trainers at home can be done by using two staple products that will restore them to their former, bright white glory.

Showing off a pair of New Balance trainers that had definitely seen better days, she worked her magic with the cleaning hack – and afterwards, they looked as though they had just come out of the box again.

If you want to try it out at home, the first thing you need to do is remove the laces from your shoes. Then, take some bicarb cream – which you can buy for £2.50 from Poundstretcher – and squeeze it all over the trainers, and scrubbing it in with a brush.

You can also use this on the inside of the shoe as well, if this area is in need of a clean.

Then, put the trainers and laces in a mesh laundry bag if you have one – but if not, a pillowcase will work just fine.

Place the bag or pillowcase in the washine machine and add some bicarbonate of soda into the drum, before washing on a cold setting – this shuld help to stop the colours from running.

After the cycle is finished, take the trainers out and you should find that they’re perfectly clean once again.

You should also make sure they have dried completely before wearing them, so pop them on a radiator for a couple of hours to do this, or air-dry them outside if the weather is suitable.
