Cleaning the oven can be one of the most dreaded chores as no one wants to spend ages scrubbing at a greasy surface, but it turns out there is a better way to get the job done. Ovens can be difficult to keep clean as food splatters and oil spills can harden in the oven due to the heat and turn into burned-on grease which is stubborn to remove. However, Angelina, an expert from Bond Cleaning in Sunshine Coast, has shared that an effective way to get your oven clean again and remove stains is to use soda crystals.

Angelina said: “Oven grills are often laden with burnt food particles, grease, gunk and oil splatters that are difficult to remove. So, it is good to submerge your oven grills in a large container filled with hot water and 250-gram soda crystals.

“Leave it for a few minutes to dislodge the gunk. After that, scrub away the residue with a brush or a sponge. Rinse and dry it thoroughly.”

Soda crystals are one of the best low-effort ways to clean an oven as they are highly alkaline, which means they will react to acidic grease and burn marks to dissolve them.

It will loosen any stuck-on stains, so you do not have to scrub at them or use a harsh chemical cleaner in the same place you cook your food.

White vinegar, citric acid, and baking soda are popular natural cleaning ingredients that can also be used to remove oven stains. However, they are not as powerful as soda crystals, so you will need more elbow grease.

Soda crystals are best for deep cleaning built-up grease in ovens, while other natural cleaning agents are better used for everyday stains.

How to deep clean an oven with soda crystals

All you need to do is mix soda crystals with warm water until they turn into a thick paste, then spread it on the stained areas of your oven, but make sure to avoid the heating element.

Let the cleaning solution sit for at least 30 minutes, but it is best left overnight for tougher stains.

While the oven is being cleaned, remove any trays or racks and place them in a sink filled with warm, soapy water and a handful of soda crystals.

Once the time is up, wipe the oven surface with a damp sponge, and the grease should come away easily.

Rinse the oven surfaces with a damp cloth to remove any remaining soda crystal residue, and make sure they are thoroughly dry before switching it on again.

Scrub the trays and racks with a sponge. Like the oven, cleaning them should be quick. Rinse them, dry them, and then set them aside.

Your oven should now be sparkling clean and stain-free without needing to be scrubbed for ages.
