Construction on the Meerut South to Modipuram NCRTC corridor is progressing rapidly, with the Namo Bharat train already running daily service between Meerut South station and New Ashok Nagar, Delhi. A major milestone is the near-completion of the Begumpul underground station, set to become a vital transport hub for the city.
Local 18’s recent visit to Begumpul station revealed completed track laying on both up and down lines. Finishing touches and essential facility installation are being expedited. Begumpul will be Meerut’s only underground station accommodating both the Namo Bharat train and the Meerut Metro.
NCRTC officials confirmed two tracks with a state-of-the-art signaling system will enable seamless operation of both trains, a first for India where a semi-high speed train and metro system will share the same track. The station offers passenger-friendly features including air conditioning, platform screen doors (PSDs), CCTV cameras, and 20 escalators connecting its four levels.
The 246-meter long and 24.5-meter wide station will have four entry/exit gates strategically located for convenient access. Seven lifts, three already installed, will facilitate easy movement within the station.
Begumpul station’s completion will provide millions with a modern, efficient, and interconnected transport system. This development promises not only to ease travel but also significantly alleviate traffic congestion in Meerut.
