The Purple Line of the Pune Metro is now fully operational, running from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate.
Covering 16.6 kilometres, this vital corridor is helping the city fight traffic jams, pollution, and poor connectivity.
The project, developed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), offers a mix of elevated and underground tracks.
It has been carefully planned to ease daily travel for residents moving across some of the busiest zones in Pune, as per Pune Pulse.
Why the Purple Line Matters
This metro line is more than just a convenience—it’s a solution to real problems faced by lakhs of commuters:
- Saves Time: Travel between PCMC and Swargate is now quicker than ever.
- Reduces Traffic: It eases pressure on key roads like the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway.
- Supports Green Mobility: With fewer cars on the road, air quality is expected to improve.
- Boosts Access: Important offices, schools, markets, and hospitals are now easier to reach.
The Purple Line is part of Phase 1 of Pune Metro, and it connects smoothly with other major corridors like the Aqua Line and the upcoming Line-3. The Civil Court station will serve as a central interchange, allowing easy transfers between metro routes in future.
Stations in Action
Out of the planned 14 stations, 11 are already open, including Bhosari, Shivaji Nagar, and Civil Court. The remaining three—Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate—are expected to be ready soon.
These stations are built to serve residential zones, historic markets, and bustling office areas—making the metro line a lifeline for modern Pune.
